Back in October last year, one of my regular customer had requested me to make an angpow wallet (to keep all the angpows / money packet in).
The usual way to make it is to make an envelope style wallet. But the problem with this style is that you cannot store much. So I told her that I will design something new, something that (hopefully) will be able to hold more angpows!
So this happened. Alhamdulillah :)
This can fit around 35 pieces of angpows!
Supplies:
- 7.5 inches width x 10 inches tall, curve the upper part as per the below picture. 1 piece each of outer fabric, inner fabric and medium weight interfacing
- Fabric for the side (3 x 2.5 inches, cut 2 pieces)
- 2 sets of snap buttons
Attached medium weight interfacing to the outer fabric. Then fold the side pieces into two (as pictured below, right side together), and iron.
With right side together, using 1/4 inch seam allowance, sew the sides of the bigger fabric but do leave approximately 2 inches on the side for turning.
Sew the sides of the smaller fabric using 1/4 inch seam allowance and leave about an inch or so at the side for turning.
Turn all the fabric right side out and iron.
Now to assemble, measure 4.375 inches from the bottom, and place the sides (on the left and the right of the wallet), refer below picture:
Sew, starting about half an inch below the left side, all the way up and to the other side, finishing about half an inch below the right side:
Now fold the bigger fabric as below:
And sew:
Repeat the same for the other side:
It should look like this once you have finished sewing both sides:
Add 2 sets of snap buttons (or you can use velcro if you don't have snap button):
And done!
I hope that you enjoy the tutorial!
